I was thinking about that interview with the guy from the official Republican party who said that the party officials would decide who was the Republican nominee, not the vote of the people. Then it occurred to me what he was saying and what went right over the reporters head who dismissed the comment quickly and went on crowing about the vote of the people;
The Democrat and Republican parties are private clubs which have officers like any other. Think of it this way, it’s like the Bloods vs the Crips. You’re not a Blood or Crip but you can voice your opinion for the most popular candidate and official members in that party will CONSIDER your opinion when deciding whom they will put forward into the general election, but that’s all they have to do. Their objective is to find the most electable person they can, usually. It’s a closed process and the media (as the guy was saying) has misled the people into thinking that their vote counts IN THE PRIMARY.
You don’t have/need to vote during their appointed primary. If your vote counts AT ALL it is during the general election, but even then the electoral college, which serves as your representative (We live in a Republic, not a democracy (where mob rules)), is assigned to put forward the official vote in a territory. He is not obligated to vote the will of the majority.
So the media frenzy you may be watching unfold over the last/next few months is largely pointless. They will present whomever they want for the general election. Losing candidates can still run on an Independent basis. It’s theater for the bored, a form of entertainment to an already overly entertained population.
If you really want your voice to be heard, contact your Secretary of State in your state. http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/links.html#states. They seem to be the electoral college voters.
As the famous George Carlin once said, “It’s a big club, and you aint in it.”
